Fertility analysis by age and birth order in the Russian Federation and the Czech Republic Abstract The thesis examines trends of demographic behaviour in the Russian Federation and the Czech Republic with focusing on fertility patterns. First, a historical view on fertility is presented including the context of the first and the secind demographic transition. The analysis of recent fertility change addresses maternal age and child's birth order, in order to identify similarities and differences between both populations. Indicators used for measuring fertility levels and structures including timing are: total fertility rate, age- specific fertility rates from cross-sectional and cohort perspective, mean age at childbearing, and parity progression ratio.
